Scientific updates in the 21st Century
The education level of the couples who are going to take infertility treatment is improving. To fulfil their desires in knowledge, there are a rising number of studies being done on the efficacy and safety of the infertility medications and being published in international scientific journals in this 21st century.
The pregnancy rate and live-birth rate is the main concern of all the couples who want to have their own baby. Scientific journals published in the year of 2007 and 2008 said that the clinical pregnancy rate as well as the live-birth rate is much higher in using HP-hMG when comparing to rFSH[1,2]. This may be the result of the increasing hCG level on day 6 is associated with a significantly higher ongoing pregnancy rate[4] and LH activity is beneficial in the diploidy rates of preimplantation embryos[5].
The higher proportion of top-quality embryos per oocyte retrieved by using HP-hMG may also contribute to the better clinical outcomes[6]. We are excited in looking forward to more up and coming scientific updates contributed by the scientists in this field!
A point to note is that the ovarian stimulation drug may be related to some adverse events such as fever, nausea and vomiting (please refer to the above table for detail). You should consult your doctor in case of serious adverse body-reactions though it is a very rare case. For the difference of safety between individual drugs, the data published so far shows no significance[1, 2, 3].
